"The American Conservative" Misses Its Mark...Yet Again

Just come across yet another feeble article in "The American Conservative," this one written by Andrew Bacevich, a regular stalwart of that magazine and of Responsible Statecraft.

The piece repeats the familiar talking-points: Russia-Ukraine is just a sideshow; Russia is not really a Great Power; Russia is doing pathetically militarily China is the Big Thing; America is badly divided; oh, and we really need to address the really big issue--the Climate Crisis.

The libertarians and the realists can now rest easy. They can condemn Russia to their heart's content (and thereby keep themselves in good standing in society), while airily dismissing "Biden" and the "GOP" and the "national security state" and of course that bugaboo--the "neocons," by arguing that they are all fixated on the wrong crisis. Russia is too feeble to waste time--the really Big Issue is somewhere else.

Many of these people spent the better part of the past two decades obsessing about the Middle East, filling up pages and pages of their magazines with analyses and critiques of U.S. policy there. If ever there was a sideshow, it was--and is--the Middle East. On the other hand, Russia--and in particular the Western goal of destroying Russia and removing it as a Great Power--is an enormous issue, and has been so since the end of the Cold War.

This looks like clown-world :)))) this is beyond infantile

CONFIRMED: Norway’s Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre has acknowledged Trump’s letter is real.

The letter reportedly ties Norway’s Nobel Peace Prize decision to Greenland, questions Denmark’s “right of ownership,” and declares the world isn’t secure unless the U.S. has “Complete and Total Control of Greenland.”

PBS’s Nick Schifrin reported the text was obtained from multiple officials and circulated by NSC staff to European ambassadors.

It reads like a meme.

It’s not. https://x.com/allenanalysis/status/2013236630350389710?s=20

Remember this when Trump officials talk about how conquering Greenland is a top national security priority. They are lying to you. https://x.com/MAGALieTracker/status/2012945930333343927?s=20

More Leftie Than Thou
"Jacobin" Magazine Celebrates A Strike Against Ol' Blue Eyes

Here at "The Gaggle" we have very little time for the "more Leftie than thou" school of thought--that's the approach to life according to which the only thing that matters is whether you take the right position on every issue under the sun from Abortion to Zelensky. No one in the world meets the exacting standards of this school of thought; any Leftie leader anywhere is always selling out to the bankers and the capitalists. The perfect exemplar of this is the unreadable Jacobin magazine.

The other day I came across this article from 2021. It's a celebration of trade union power. And not simply trade union power, but the use of trade union power to secure political goals. Of course (and this is always the case with the "more Leftie than thou" crowd), this glorious, never-to-be-forgotten moment on the history of organized labor took place many years ago--in the summer of 1974 to be exact. Yes, almost half a century has gone by since that thrilling moment when the working-class movement of Australia mobilized and prepared to seize the means of production, distribution and exchange.

Well, not quite. Organized labor went into action against...Ol' Blue Eyes, the Chairman of the Board, the Voice; yes, Frank Sinatra. Why? What had Sinatra done? Sinatra was certainly very rich, and he owned a variety of properties and businesses. But if the Australian trade union movement were, understandably, searching for the bright, incandescent spark that would finally awaken the working class from its slumber there were surely richer, greedier, more dishonest, more decadent, above all more Australian individuals it could have discovered. Australia was never short of them. Rupert Murdoch immediately springs to mind. Why Sinatra?
