Liberal Gibberish At Its Purest

No matter how many times I try to make head or tail of this politically-correct liberal gibberish from The Economist, I fail miserably. I have no idea what the magazine is trying to say here other than that "We mustn't be mean to Barack Obama."

Still, if anyone can make sense of this word salad, please share your thoughts.

Washington is now going after Iran’s land borders.

On 7 November, CENTCOM set up Task Force Iron Gate to watch Iran’s borders and the Caspian Sea.

Its targets are weapons, dual-use technology, sanctioned goods and “illegal revenue”.

The sea route is already shut. Every Iranian port has been under US naval blockade since 14 July, and Iran hasn’t loaded a barrel of crude in September or October.

The land routes are what’s left.

Iran did $ 42bn of non-oil trade with 8 land and Caspian neighbours in 2024–25:

🇹🇷 Turkey: $ 19.4bn

🇮🇶 Iraq: $ 12.5bn

🇵🇰 Pakistan: $ 3.1bn

🇦🇫 Afghanistan: $ 2.5bn

🇷🇺 Russia: $ 2.4bn, mostly across the Caspian

Turkey and Iraq alone carry 3 of every 4 dollars.

The task force has about 20 people, working from Tampa.

It can watch the borders.
Whether it closes them is up to Ankara and Baghdad.

The AI layoff gamble is backfiring.

Companies that rushed to replace workers with AI are now cleaning up the mess, per The Guardian.

Meta scaled back plans to cut staff and use more AI agents after employees spent growing time cleaning up the agents’ technical and security errors. It’s now rehiring managers.
Microsoft and McKinsey are limiting employee AI use as costs pile up.
Walmart workers say AI scheduling and task tools set impossible standards and generate false alerts.

The payoff isn’t showing up: 90% of executives say AI hasn’t yet boosted productivity at their companies, per an Atlanta Fed working paper.

Yet more than 112,000 US job cuts this year have cited AI, per Challenger, Gray & Christmas.

Are Trump cultists and super fans ever going to move on from their obsession with treating Trump like a god?

I think a lot of losers are afraid of figuring out a new personality or something. There is no other explanation for why they’re willing to lose this badly.

More Leftie Than Thou
"Jacobin" Magazine Celebrates A Strike Against Ol' Blue Eyes

Here at "The Gaggle" we have very little time for the "more Leftie than thou" school of thought--that's the approach to life according to which the only thing that matters is whether you take the right position on every issue under the sun from Abortion to Zelensky. No one in the world meets the exacting standards of this school of thought; any Leftie leader anywhere is always selling out to the bankers and the capitalists. The perfect exemplar of this is the unreadable Jacobin magazine.

The other day I came across this article from 2021. It's a celebration of trade union power. And not simply trade union power, but the use of trade union power to secure political goals. Of course (and this is always the case with the "more Leftie than thou" crowd), this glorious, never-to-be-forgotten moment on the history of organized labor took place many years ago--in the summer of 1974 to be exact. Yes, almost half a century has gone by since that thrilling moment when the working-class movement of Australia mobilized and prepared to seize the means of production, distribution and exchange.

Well, not quite. Organized labor went into action against...Ol' Blue Eyes, the Chairman of the Board, the Voice; yes, Frank Sinatra. Why? What had Sinatra done? Sinatra was certainly very rich, and he owned a variety of properties and businesses. But if the Australian trade union movement were, understandably, searching for the bright, incandescent spark that would finally awaken the working class from its slumber there were surely richer, greedier, more dishonest, more decadent, above all more Australian individuals it could have discovered. Australia was never short of them. Rupert Murdoch immediately springs to mind. Why Sinatra?
