The Emptiness Of Being Giorgia Meloni

Giorgia Meloni truly is a waste of space--a manufactured candidate to ensure that the opposition is corralled into supporting the powers that be. Once her term in office expires, she will doubtless be promoted or, better still, offered some institute gig that pays millions. Perhaps she will team up with the Finnchick at the Tony Blair Institute.

"You see, the end of the war and the building of a just and lasting peace are our objectives. And we must expend all our energy in this direction. But Putin can only be convinced to sit at the negotiating table if the balance of forces on the field is guaranteed. And this can only be ensured if Italy, Europe and the West continue to help Ukraine. This is a decisive factor, and I am proud of the contribution that this government has made in Europe to reach agreement in the European Council on support for Ukraine for the next four years. It wasn't a given at all."

The Department of War, in coordination with Lockheed Martin and European allies, has selected Poland to host a European PAC-3 Missile Maintenance Facility, the Pentagon announced October 27th, on the margins of NATO’s Conference of National Armaments Directors. Germany, the Netherlands and Sweden will lead supply chain integration, according to the release.

PAC-3 is the interceptor missile fired by Patriot air defense systems. The facility will conduct maintenance, repair and overhaul in Europe. It is not for building new missiles. The Pentagon says doing that work in the region will “dramatically shorten turnaround times” and give allies surge capacity in a crisis, but does not quantify either. Under Secretary of War for Acquisition and Sustainment Michael Duffey said allies are investing national resources “to establish this critical sustainment capability on NATO’s Eastern Front.”

The decision follows a July 7th agreement, signed at the NATO summit in Ankara by the ...

More Leftie Than Thou
"Jacobin" Magazine Celebrates A Strike Against Ol' Blue Eyes

Here at "The Gaggle" we have very little time for the "more Leftie than thou" school of thought--that's the approach to life according to which the only thing that matters is whether you take the right position on every issue under the sun from Abortion to Zelensky. No one in the world meets the exacting standards of this school of thought; any Leftie leader anywhere is always selling out to the bankers and the capitalists. The perfect exemplar of this is the unreadable Jacobin magazine.

The other day I came across this article from 2021. It's a celebration of trade union power. And not simply trade union power, but the use of trade union power to secure political goals. Of course (and this is always the case with the "more Leftie than thou" crowd), this glorious, never-to-be-forgotten moment on the history of organized labor took place many years ago--in the summer of 1974 to be exact. Yes, almost half a century has gone by since that thrilling moment when the working-class movement of Australia mobilized and prepared to seize the means of production, distribution and exchange.

Well, not quite. Organized labor went into action against...Ol' Blue Eyes, the Chairman of the Board, the Voice; yes, Frank Sinatra. Why? What had Sinatra done? Sinatra was certainly very rich, and he owned a variety of properties and businesses. But if the Australian trade union movement were, understandably, searching for the bright, incandescent spark that would finally awaken the working class from its slumber there were surely richer, greedier, more dishonest, more decadent, above all more Australian individuals it could have discovered. Australia was never short of them. Rupert Murdoch immediately springs to mind. Why Sinatra?
