HARRIS WILL DELIVER HER CONCESSION SPEECH AROUND 6 PM ET

In what accent?

‘Classless’ Harris fails to concede

Ms Harris has been branded “classless” for failing to concede more than nine hours after Trump’s victory was declared. The US vice-president left her election party on Tuesday night without addressing the crowd but is expected to concede defeat publicly this afternoon – follow live updates here. Meanwhile, Ms Harris has been accused of picking the wrong running mate as the Democratic blame game begins.

World War Now:
🇺🇸⚡- "President-elect Trump and his allies are closely monitoring which leaders congratulate him on his victory and how long it takes them to do so," - CNN.

🇺🇸🇮🇱⚡- "No one in Israel wanted Harris and no one trusts her here," - NBC, quoting an Israeli official.

🇮🇱⚡- Yoav Gallant in his goodbye message told Chief of Staff Halevi: "When the winds are stormy and the darkness surrounds you, stick to your moral and ethical compass. Don't let anyone divert you from the path of securing Israel ... Never be complicit in harming the IDF or other security organizations."

It's assumed he's referring to Likud's right-wing faction.

🇷🇸🇷🇸🤝🇺🇸🇺🇸 Milorad Dodik, the nationalist President of Republika Srpska, has donned his #MAGA hat and is celebrating Trump’s HUGE election victory in true Serbian fashion 🪗👑

U.S. Ambassador's Sanctimonious Speech

David Pressman, the Biden administration's pick to serve as U.S. ambassador to Hungary, delivered a long, tedious and sanctimonious speech during an election hight reception at the U.S. embassy.

Pressman's complaints about Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán's open support for Donald Trump in the U.S. election ring a little hollow. Scarcely a day goes by without the U.S. ambassador's denouncing Orbán for his policies. None of that is in accord with customary diplomatic practice. Moreover, the Biden administration has gone out of its way to snub Orbán. Hungary, alone among NATO and EU allies of the United States, didn't receive an invitation to attend the administration's Democracy Summit.

So, it's not immediately obvious why Orbán should have kept his presidential preference secret, particularly as he has made no secret of his extreme unhappiness with the administration's disastrous Ukraine policy.

Why She Lost

The postmortems about U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris’s loss to Donald Trump in the 2024 U.S. presidential election will go on for a long time. Many books will be written, pundits’ reputations made and unmade, and academic careers launched as the polling data behind this baffling, unprecedented election are pored over for years to come. But as a first rough draft of history, there are a few ominous road markers that stand out.

After a remarkable start to her campaign, Harris failed to close the deal rhetorically. In an unfortunate echo of Hillary Clinton’s loss in 2016, Harris spent far too much time trying to argue that Trump was unfit for the presidency and too little time delivering a coherent message about why she would be better.

More Leftie Than Thou
"Jacobin" Magazine Celebrates A Strike Against Ol' Blue Eyes

Here at "The Gaggle" we have very little time for the "more Leftie than thou" school of thought--that's the approach to life according to which the only thing that matters is whether you take the right position on every issue under the sun from Abortion to Zelensky. No one in the world meets the exacting standards of this school of thought; any Leftie leader anywhere is always selling out to the bankers and the capitalists. The perfect exemplar of this is the unreadable Jacobin magazine.

The other day I came across this article from 2021. It's a celebration of trade union power. And not simply trade union power, but the use of trade union power to secure political goals. Of course (and this is always the case with the "more Leftie than thou" crowd), this glorious, never-to-be-forgotten moment on the history of organized labor took place many years ago--in the summer of 1974 to be exact. Yes, almost half a century has gone by since that thrilling moment when the working-class movement of Australia mobilized and prepared to seize the means of production, distribution and exchange.

Well, not quite. Organized labor went into action against...Ol' Blue Eyes, the Chairman of the Board, the Voice; yes, Frank Sinatra. Why? What had Sinatra done? Sinatra was certainly very rich, and he owned a variety of properties and businesses. But if the Australian trade union movement were, understandably, searching for the bright, incandescent spark that would finally awaken the working class from its slumber there were surely richer, greedier, more dishonest, more decadent, above all more Australian individuals it could have discovered. Australia was never short of them. Rupert Murdoch immediately springs to mind. Why Sinatra?
