TG 1776: Trump's Territorial Ambitions: Redefining the U.S. National Interest

George Szamuely tries to make sense of President-elect Trump's interest in territorial acquisitions in terms of his attempt--possibly futile--to break the post-1945 Washington consensus as to what constitutes genuine U.S. national interests.

Unfortunately, there is a 30-minute freeze, starting about 13 minutes in.

TG 1775: Is Zuckerberg Really Dispensing With Facebook Fact-checkers?

George Szamuely and Peter Lavelle discuss Mark Zuckerberg's decision to dispense with fact-checkers at Facebook and to replace them with self-correction via Community Notes, and wonder as to how sincere the Meta CEO really is.

NEW - Barbara Marx Hubbard and the Malthusian-Transhumanist Riders of the Pale Horse

Why did the celebrated futurist Barbara Marx Hubbard call for the culling of one-fourth of the human population? John Klyczek tracked down Hubbard’s infamous unpublished manuscript and digs deeper into the legacy of her Malthusian gospel of “conscious” transhuman evolution.

People should consider that arguably the main interest in Greenland (and also likely Canada as well) from the Trump camp and Musk is related to vast mineral deposits, particularly those necessary for the "energy transformation" and "EV revolution" that is directly tied to the business interests of Musk as well as other prominent Big Tech figures.

For example, aside from Musk, Jeff Bezos, who recently gave very very generously to Trump's inauguration fund, backs a firm called KoBold Metals along with Bill Gates, Reid Hoffman (who both backed Kamala) and Marc Andressen (currently advising Trump on tech policy) that is drilling in Greenland for EV related minerals. Northern Canada also possesses significant deposits of minerals essential to EV production.

The "digital transformation" that these Silicon Valley oligarchs are attempting to manifest would, admittedly, require all of the known deposits of lithium, nickel, cobalt and several other minerals across the planet. The US itself is ...

More Leftie Than Thou
"Jacobin" Magazine Celebrates A Strike Against Ol' Blue Eyes

Here at "The Gaggle" we have very little time for the "more Leftie than thou" school of thought--that's the approach to life according to which the only thing that matters is whether you take the right position on every issue under the sun from Abortion to Zelensky. No one in the world meets the exacting standards of this school of thought; any Leftie leader anywhere is always selling out to the bankers and the capitalists. The perfect exemplar of this is the unreadable Jacobin magazine.

The other day I came across this article from 2021. It's a celebration of trade union power. And not simply trade union power, but the use of trade union power to secure political goals. Of course (and this is always the case with the "more Leftie than thou" crowd), this glorious, never-to-be-forgotten moment on the history of organized labor took place many years ago--in the summer of 1974 to be exact. Yes, almost half a century has gone by since that thrilling moment when the working-class movement of Australia mobilized and prepared to seize the means of production, distribution and exchange.

Well, not quite. Organized labor went into action against...Ol' Blue Eyes, the Chairman of the Board, the Voice; yes, Frank Sinatra. Why? What had Sinatra done? Sinatra was certainly very rich, and he owned a variety of properties and businesses. But if the Australian trade union movement were, understandably, searching for the bright, incandescent spark that would finally awaken the working class from its slumber there were surely richer, greedier, more dishonest, more decadent, above all more Australian individuals it could have discovered. Australia was never short of them. Rupert Murdoch immediately springs to mind. Why Sinatra?
