The Giuseppe Torre Award

The International Criminal Tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia is a travesty of justice. Established in 1993, the ICTY was assigned the task of absolving Europe and the United States of any responsibility for the destruction of the state of Yugoslavia and for the wars that followed. The ICTY's mission was to lay the blame on the biggest victims of the breakup of the common multinational, multiconfessional state: the Serbs.

The ICTY’s record on prosecutions speaks for itself. During its 24-year existence, the ICTY indicted 161 individuals: 101 Serbs, 37 Croats, 9 Bosnian Muslims, 9 Kosovo Albanians, 2 Macedonians and 2 Montegrins and, of course, 0 citizens of NATO countries. Of the 161 indictees, 22 were charged with genocide, everyone a Serb. The ICTY has indicted seven presidents, everyone a Serb. Of the 1,657 years of sentencing the ICTY has handed down, a mere 64 (3.86%) were for crimes committed against Serbs. Of those 1,657 years, 1,302.5 years (78.6%) were handed down to Serb defendants.

In any case, I was recently awarded first prize for an essay I wrote for the Giuseppe Torre Award: "Securing Desired Outcomes: The Political Mission of the ICTY."

🇮🇱❌🇵🇸— Earlier today, Palestinian channels claimed Israel dropped these leaflets on Gaza, after the Parade with the coffins of Bibas kids

“To the honorable people of Gaza:

After the events that have transpired, the temporary ceasefire, and before the implementation of Trump’s mandatory plan—which will impose forced displacement on you whether you like it or not—we have decided to address you with a final appeal. To anyone willing to accept our assistance in exchange for helping us, we will not hesitate for a moment to provide aid.

Reconsider your calculations:

The world map will not change if all the people of Gaza disappear from existence.

No one will feel your absence, nor will anyone ask about you.

You are left alone with your inevitable fate.

Iran cannot protect itself, let alone protect you—and you have seen with your own eyes what happened.

Neither America nor Europe cares about Gaza, nor do your Arab nations, which are now our allies, supplying us ...

More Leftie Than Thou
"Jacobin" Magazine Celebrates A Strike Against Ol' Blue Eyes

Here at "The Gaggle" we have very little time for the "more Leftie than thou" school of thought--that's the approach to life according to which the only thing that matters is whether you take the right position on every issue under the sun from Abortion to Zelensky. No one in the world meets the exacting standards of this school of thought; any Leftie leader anywhere is always selling out to the bankers and the capitalists. The perfect exemplar of this is the unreadable Jacobin magazine.

The other day I came across this article from 2021. It's a celebration of trade union power. And not simply trade union power, but the use of trade union power to secure political goals. Of course (and this is always the case with the "more Leftie than thou" crowd), this glorious, never-to-be-forgotten moment on the history of organized labor took place many years ago--in the summer of 1974 to be exact. Yes, almost half a century has gone by since that thrilling moment when the working-class movement of Australia mobilized and prepared to seize the means of production, distribution and exchange.

Well, not quite. Organized labor went into action against...Ol' Blue Eyes, the Chairman of the Board, the Voice; yes, Frank Sinatra. Why? What had Sinatra done? Sinatra was certainly very rich, and he owned a variety of properties and businesses. But if the Australian trade union movement were, understandably, searching for the bright, incandescent spark that would finally awaken the working class from its slumber there were surely richer, greedier, more dishonest, more decadent, above all more Australian individuals it could have discovered. Australia was never short of them. Rupert Murdoch immediately springs to mind. Why Sinatra?
