Uh-oh, trouble in the Magyar-Croat empire

Hungary's FM just begged Croatia for Russian oil — even though Hungary already has a pipeline for non-Russian crude.

The real emergency isn't energy. It's the discount.

MOL buys Russian crude cheap, sells refined products at EU prices, and the savings never reach Hungarian drivers — they fund Orbán's patronage network.

Over €50 million in MOL dividends went to a regime-linked think tank now working to dismantle the EU institutions that sanction Russian oil.

Bulgaria quit Russian crude in 2024. No shortages. No price shocks.

Hungary could do the same tomorrow. Orbán's regime can't. https://euromaidanpress.com/2026/02/18/hun

Today we decided to suspend diesel fuel deliveries to Ukraine. Shipments will not resume until oil transit toward Hungary via the Druzhba pipeline is restored.

@ZelenskyyUA
has decided not to restart oil transit for political reasons, deliberately putting Hungary’s energy supply at risk, while we play an essential role in Ukraine’s energy security. A large part of Ukraine’s gas, electricity and diesel imports arrives through or from Hungary.

We cannot be expected to guarantee another country’s energy security while our own supply is put at risk. Energy cooperation must be mutual and based on respect, not pressure.

Hungarian MFA “Diesel fuel shipments to Ukraine will not resume until crude oil deliveries to Hungary via the Druzhba pipeline are restored.”

Thankfully, Ukraine also shares borders with Romania and Poland.

There is more in this report, than in Nima Alkhorshid's podcast with Helmer. All very interesting. I did like Helmer's comment during the podcast, that people strolling around Moscow, saying 'hey, everything's great' do not understand what is happening to the Russian economy. Of course Nabiullina did everything possible to make a return to the empire more likely.

From the article:

“The war has created a firehose economy—massive state spending fuels growth in military industries but creates acute distortions: critical labor shortages (exacerbated by mobilization), high inflation, and a crash in civilian sectors. It’s unsustainable long-term, draining the National Wealth Fund and diverting resources from infrastructure, health care, and education. The naval blockade directly attacks Russia’s primary revenue source: energy exports. The current high bank interest] rates are designed to combat inflation fueled by massive state spending (primarily military). This policy suppresses ...

More Leftie Than Thou
"Jacobin" Magazine Celebrates A Strike Against Ol' Blue Eyes

Here at "The Gaggle" we have very little time for the "more Leftie than thou" school of thought--that's the approach to life according to which the only thing that matters is whether you take the right position on every issue under the sun from Abortion to Zelensky. No one in the world meets the exacting standards of this school of thought; any Leftie leader anywhere is always selling out to the bankers and the capitalists. The perfect exemplar of this is the unreadable Jacobin magazine.

The other day I came across this article from 2021. It's a celebration of trade union power. And not simply trade union power, but the use of trade union power to secure political goals. Of course (and this is always the case with the "more Leftie than thou" crowd), this glorious, never-to-be-forgotten moment on the history of organized labor took place many years ago--in the summer of 1974 to be exact. Yes, almost half a century has gone by since that thrilling moment when the working-class movement of Australia mobilized and prepared to seize the means of production, distribution and exchange.

Well, not quite. Organized labor went into action against...Ol' Blue Eyes, the Chairman of the Board, the Voice; yes, Frank Sinatra. Why? What had Sinatra done? Sinatra was certainly very rich, and he owned a variety of properties and businesses. But if the Australian trade union movement were, understandably, searching for the bright, incandescent spark that would finally awaken the working class from its slumber there were surely richer, greedier, more dishonest, more decadent, above all more Australian individuals it could have discovered. Australia was never short of them. Rupert Murdoch immediately springs to mind. Why Sinatra?
