Still a long way away

The damage for SpaceX is massive

"The European Union is working toward fast-track antitrust approval for a satellite joint venture between Leonardo SpA, Airbus SE, and Thales SA, which is positioned as Europe's response to SpaceX"

The actions of the 🇺🇸 US administration have consequences.

Recent reports from 4 sources confirm that both Elon and Trump supported the restrictions of Starshield, which confirms my earlier posts stating that SpaceX is involved and part of it.

The Telegraph on Oct. 16 reported that it was Musk who proposed the speed cap to Trump — and Trump "agreed," one source said.

That sounds very likely to what really had happened including Elons denial to have any responsibility (half true) and Trumps lie which is just one more of the many he spreads every day.

Its not a question if the 🇪🇺 EU can install a comparable system to Starlink & Starshield in Europe and Ukraine but how long it will take and here is a realistic estimation:

2026–28
Immediate stopgap measures
Europe can consolidate existing satellite capacity, purchase commercial services, and secure selected military communications links. This would cover important requirements, but it would not provide a complete replacement for Starlink and Starshield at the front.

2029–30
First independent European capabilities
The EU plans to begin launching IRIS² satellites from 2029, with initial secure communications services expected around 2030. A German military satellitenetworkis also planned. This should make Europe more independent, although it would not yet match Starlink's overall capacity.

2030–32
A plausible timeframe for a partial replacement
With accelerated procurement, Europe could provide sufficient additional capacity, terminals, and military integration to cover many of Ukraine's und Europes critical communications requirements with substantially greater independence.

2033–36+
Potential replacement approaching overall capability parity.

This would require Europe not only to complete IRIS² but also to expand capacity significantly, establish rapid satellite replenishment capabilities, and integrate additional military reconnaissance and data links. Whether and when this can be achieved remains uncertain.

Few people realize that while SpaceX has done an outstanding job with Starlink and Starshield, a satellite constellation to replace these systems is a technology that Europe can easily implement therefore its not a how but when.

Funding is not an issue, nor is securing the launch capacity needed to put satellites into orbit. There are no technical or financial hurdles for the EU, so this will happen, as Europe’s geopolitical independence is one of the member states’ most important values.

Of course, it will take time, but as the timeline shows, it is by no means the case that Europe is starting from scratch or that new developments are necessary; rather, existing programs simply need to be accelerated, and that is a solvable task.

The U.S., Russia, and China all have national interests that are directed against the EU in that respect, and Europe is well aware of this and knows what needs to be done.

This will happen. 😊

More Leftie Than Thou
"Jacobin" Magazine Celebrates A Strike Against Ol' Blue Eyes

Here at "The Gaggle" we have very little time for the "more Leftie than thou" school of thought--that's the approach to life according to which the only thing that matters is whether you take the right position on every issue under the sun from Abortion to Zelensky. No one in the world meets the exacting standards of this school of thought; any Leftie leader anywhere is always selling out to the bankers and the capitalists. The perfect exemplar of this is the unreadable Jacobin magazine.

The other day I came across this article from 2021. It's a celebration of trade union power. And not simply trade union power, but the use of trade union power to secure political goals. Of course (and this is always the case with the "more Leftie than thou" crowd), this glorious, never-to-be-forgotten moment on the history of organized labor took place many years ago--in the summer of 1974 to be exact. Yes, almost half a century has gone by since that thrilling moment when the working-class movement of Australia mobilized and prepared to seize the means of production, distribution and exchange.

Well, not quite. Organized labor went into action against...Ol' Blue Eyes, the Chairman of the Board, the Voice; yes, Frank Sinatra. Why? What had Sinatra done? Sinatra was certainly very rich, and he owned a variety of properties and businesses. But if the Australian trade union movement were, understandably, searching for the bright, incandescent spark that would finally awaken the working class from its slumber there were surely richer, greedier, more dishonest, more decadent, above all more Australian individuals it could have discovered. Australia was never short of them. Rupert Murdoch immediately springs to mind. Why Sinatra?
